Monastery Day and Vocation Awareness at RCA

On Thursday, October 22, the Lower School celebrated Monastery Day while the Upper School celebrated Vocation Awareness Day.

Sister Marie Mechtild Wasserthal, R.S.M. and Sister Gilmary, R.S.M. visited with the Upper School students; they shared about the beauty and joy they have personally discovered in the consecrated life. Mr. Sean Flanagan and Mr. Colin Murphy, seminarians from St. Charles Borromeo were able to give their stories about how they discerned a priestly vocation.

They enjoyed hearing what the students are learning about, the list of books and poems being read in their classes; the Seventh Grade recited Invictus, by William Ernest Henley as well as Death Be Not Proud by John Donne.

The “monks and nuns” in the Lower School spent the afternoon making mosaic crosses, sacred hearts and completing other contemplative tasks.

Here is a photo of Sr. Gilmary naming a Brother.

Each Lower School child recieves a new name in church. When the sisters placed a cross around each one’s neck, she said a little prayer.

“Br. Francis, may you know the love of God the Father through all of nature’s beauty.””Sr. Mary, may you always have our Lady in your heart, and may she keep you wrapped in her mantle.”

“Fr. Matthew, may St. Matthew descend upon you and help you to the Word of God.”

Please pray for each child, that they may know and love the vocation Our Father has written on their hearts.
