RCA Teachers Participate in St. Thomas More Program

How did you spend your summer vacation? Dedicated RCA teachers Faith Dickerson, Leslie Melecio, and Victoria Canales invested their time in the St. Thomas More program in Boston.

The St.Thomas More Fellow program is a five week intensive class for Catholic educators. The focus of the five weeks includes: Lesson planning, Classroom strategy and discipline, Communication with Parents/Guardians, Spiritual Development, and building community skills with other teachers.

The program, which has graduated five classes, has shown improved teacher retention for educators who participated. After completing the five weeks, the teachers are assigned a mentor, who will observe them in the classroom and assist with lesson planning. This continued development will help them grow as educators.

“As a lifelong learner, I appreciated the opportunity to attend the St. Thomas More Teaching Fellowship in Boston. The Fellowship fits very well with RCA’s mission of forming joyful saints.

Each day we attended Holy Hour and Mass to prepare our hearts for the joyful work of teaching,” commented Faith Dickerson, fourth grade teacher. We had several information sessions daily, and time to reflect on how to incorporate the ideas we had learned into our classroom procedures, atmospheres, and routines.”

RCA is blessed to have teachers who are willing to use their vacation to hone their skills in the classroom.
